Why Skipping Breakfast Makes You Fat!

As I am sure you have heard, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet most people tend to skip it. Ever wonder why? The answer is simple; people fall into a routine. If they skip breakfast in the morning enough times, they begin to train their body that they are not hungry in the morning. It’s as simple as that. If you don’t make time for yourself to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning you are already setting yourself up for failure and it’s a hard habit to break.

Now let’s take a two step approach to looking at this. First, I will use the example of the camel. What happens when the camel doesn’t get any water for long periods of time? That’s right, you guessed it, it will adapt and train its body to store the water.  Listen, I know we are not camels, don’t jump ahead, but you get the basic point, it’s all physiology. Your body will start to train itself that it won’t be eating in the morning and will begin to package the food you eat the night before as fat stores. Just the same as you can pick up habits and get into a routine, so can your body’s physiology. Essentially, you’re teaching your body that it’s okay to store fat.

The second important reason to eat a healthy meal in the morning is because if you want to lose weight and feel good, your body needs the nutrients to do it. In order for your  body to burn fat, the engine needs to be running properly. There are essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients your body needs daily. So the oxymoron here is, you need to eat more to lose weight, that’s right, I said it. The more healthy meals you eat in smaller portions, the more your body will metabolize. I know what you’re thinking, if I eat more I will get fat! Thankfully if you do it right, that won’t be the case. The truth is, eating healthier meals in smaller portions throughout the day will actually lead to weight loss.

Think of eating this way. Now this is hypothetical so don’t use this as a meal plan. Say you eat 2 apples in the morning 2 apples at lunch and 2 apples for dinner. You will have eaten a total of 6 apples. Now instead, picture this method, eat one apple in the morning, one apple two hours later and another apple every two hours after that until you have eaten all 6 apples. You will still have the same amount of apples that day as you normally would, just spread out, giving your body less time to store fat and more time to burn the energy. Believe it or not, you will actually feel more full doing this and less bloated. The hunger urges will subside and you will feel better from the energy and nutrients your body will be absorbing properly.

So before you start taking that second helping today, think twice and remember two hours from now you get to eat again, you won’t starve and I promise you will feel even better!
